I delegated the choice and kept the maintenance

The chat's retrieval architecture was the decision of the agent that built it; I do not know what it was, and it is still mine to maintain and explain.

It was purely the decision of the agent that built it. I write that without irony: that is how it went, and I moved on because the chat answered.

What the delegation did not transfer was the maintenance. Today I have behaviour I dislike — it is slow and does not look right — and no knowledge of what sits underneath it. The two together cost more than either alone: you cannot optimise what you do not know, and you cannot justify what you have not measured.

The lesson I take is not to stop delegating. It is that review has to reach the structural choice, not only the screen that answers.
